summertime :)

just a note on what i've been up to. my mom, sister and cousin came to visit me this weekend! it was so nice to see them and go out and about in charleston. last night we went to the IMAX theatre to see the finale of harry potter in 3D! most of our weekend consisted of swimming at the pool and the beach so here are some fun underwater shots!

through their eyes

i am participating in a "blogathon" to raise funds for the Through Their Eyes Africa Project. this project benefits areas of africa where it seems most or all adults have died (generally of aids and malaria) and the children are left with little aid. the project will be sending a group of photographers into a remote part of africa that has not received any help yet.the photographers will be mentoring young adults on how to take pictures so that we can get a look at their society “through their eyes." all the funds raised from this project will go right back to the needs of these people. so, please go now and give by CLICKING HERE.

if you let me know you donated --leave a comment or send me an email. one lucky couple will receive a free engagement session! one stipulation: you must be willing to put yourselves entirely in my hands for the shoot and location! :)

lets make this happen!! you can also read even more about the project here:

WPJA WINNER!!!!!

i am so excited to report that i've received FIRST PLACE in the emotion category for the first quarter WPJA contest!!!! i am absolutely thrilled and humbled to be placed up there with all the other amazing photographers in the wedding photojournalist association.

this is one of my favorite images i've ever taken. the pure, raw emotion struck through me as soon as i saw nancy look up at her daugher. her look happened so fleetingly that i thought i might have missed it. i'm so thankful i was able to capture this image for nancy and her family.

JUDGES COMMENTS: The eyes just say it all. Beautiful subject and beautifully handled. The hands coming into the frame give the picture even more energy (as if the eyes weren't electric enough). This is one proud mother or grandmother and this picture of her will be remembered long after she's gone. Emotion can come just from the power of a look, and this look was one of my favorites in the edit. I loved her expression and the photographer recognizing that and moving in for the tighter crop was the right thing to do.

jason + kelly...the e-session

still catching up from my june travels! the other week lance and i had the privilege of heading to oak island to shoot an engagement session for jason and kelly. they were both so laid back and easy going! we had a lot of fun hanging out with jason and kelly and can't wait to see them this july for mary-kathryn and todd's wedding!
